Events on Home Of The Muse Bonaire

Home Of The Muse offers group accommodation and masterclass weeks as well as space for events. This unique location is ideal for weddings, family celebrations, meetings and retreats.

That Home Of The Muse is one of Bonaire’s most beautiful resorts is becoming clear by now! The island is starting to buzz, and for good reason. After months of hard work we are ready to receive guests.

Recently we had a graduation party of Forma, and that was quite a party! 60 students received their diplomas and took their friends and family with them. All this with the theme “bohemian white”. It reminded us a bit of the dance parties of Sensations (The White Edition) with the emphasis on a bit, because instead of techno beats, beautiful salsa and batchata music sounded over the terrain. Of course, this was also a great test case to check out our PA system.

Just like it happens on beautiful Bonaire!

Mangrove forests

Mangrove forests

If you drive from Kralendijk or Home Of The Muse in the direction of Sorobon, you won’t escape it. The mangrove forests of Bonaire. This unique ecosystem is a biotope that provides housing for many flora and fauna.

The mangrove forests of Bonaire are a unique and unfortunately worldwide threatended area. From Home Of The Muse it is a firm stone’s throw, and from the roof terrace you can observe the forests in all their glory. Between the mangrove trees you see many water courses where you can see many flamingos in the shallow parts.

But back to the trees themselves. The red and black mangrove trees found on Bonaire have a number of nice “gadgets” built in. For example, they can grow in salt water, but need fresh water to survive. Huh? They make fresh water for themselves from salt water by reverse osmosis. All this with a high-tech semi-permeable filter! In addition, pollination is done by the bats naturally occurring on Bonaire instead of butterflies or bees.

The mangrove area of Lac Cai is also called the nursery of the ocean; you can see small sharks, barracudas and other young fish here. In addition, the seagrass bottom serves as a favorite restaurant of the various species of sea turtles found on Bonaire such as the green turtle, loggerhead and hawksbill.

Visit the Mangrove Info Center and book a canoe tour and experience for yourself how amazing the mangrove forests are. Of course it is also an ideal break if you book a master class at Home Of The Muse, or book a week with your family with us!

Positive effects of sea air

Positive effects of sea air

It’s no secret to most people that a day at the beach is tremendously invigorating for body and soul! According to a recent study by the University of Ghent together with the Flemish Institute for the Sea, breathing in sea air helps fight cancer, but it is also an excellent way to combat high cholesterol. So is a nap on the beach a good alternative to the gym? Of course, it is not that simple!

Sea spray, the natural phenomenon whereby sea water is sprayed into the air by the waves, is rich in substances that are good for your health. The substances, produced by algae and bacteria, are absorbed into your body through your breathing and are therefore called sea air. That sea air is healthy was confirmed earlier.

“We took samples of sea air and examined them in the laboratory,” says Emmanuel Van Acker of the Faculty of Bioengineering at Ghent University. “There we exposed human lung cancer cells to those air samples, and looked at what health effects they cause. In doing so, we looked specifically at the effects on our genes, and compared this with results from other scientific studies.”

This showed that sea air inhibits the action of the gene that plays an important role in lung cancer and (high) cholesterol levels. “Previous studies showed that lung cancer cells die and cholesterol drops when we inhibit this gene,” says researcher Jana Asselman. “New potential cancer therapies and the latest generation of cholesterol inhibitors act on this same gene. Now that we know that sea air also inhibits the action of this gene, we can expect sea air to have a similar positive effect on health.”

Home Of The Muse is, of course, not a medical-scientific institution, but we are sure that the clean air on Bonaire has a tremendously positive influence on one’s constitution. And what could be more fun than doing a Creative Masterclass week with us, having a great time in our unique group accommodation, knowing that it will not only make you smarter, but healthier as well!

Learning Orchestra Bonaire

Learning Orchestra Bonaire

JB Meijers can be found at the Magasina di rei in Rincon at certain times. That’s where the Bonaire Learning Orchestra practices from time to time.

JB Meijers is ambassador of the Bonaire Learning Orchestra.

Besides giving Creative Masterclass weeks he is regularly to be found at the Magasina di Rei in Rincon where the musical youth of Bonaire practice.

Music is in the blood of Bonaireans. From an early age, music has played a very important role in Bonaire’s culture.

The initiative that Leerorkest Nederland took a few years ago, and has since brought to the Caribbean islands, plays an increasingly important role in this.

The Orchestra is convinced that creative subjects such as making music together are just as important as maths, writing and reading, something that comes up in every Creative Master Class.

Many children do not have the opportunity to take music lessons and/or learn to play an instrument because of their home situation. The Leerorkest in cooperation with Home Of The Muse wants to change this and brings the “music school” into the classroom!

Leerorkest Bonaire aims to give all children on Bonaire the opportunity to learn that playing a musical instrument and making music together is a lot of fun!

It has been scientifically proven that making music together has a positive effect on the intelligence and social skills of children. This effect occurs because making music has a positive and stimulating effect on the neuronal connections in the brain. Children who make music together learn to work together, lean on each other, listen to each other, wait on each other and much more.

The more positive activities organized for children, the less likely boredom will strike. Like sports, music makes children stronger and happier.
